Franca’s family have been growing produce in Australia since immigrating from Italy in 1956. Franca’s father and his two brothers arrived with nothing but the capacity to work hard. Now known as “Franca’s Vineyard” the property overlooks Pike River, a tributary of the great Murray River, on the border of Victoria and South Australia. For many years the family was the biggest supplier of onions and potatoes to the Sydney markets.
In 1990 they decided to diversify, planting citrus and wine grapes. Once the Vineyard and Orange Grove was established they turned their attention to just grapes and citrus. The family used practices employed in Italy to produce the best quality grapes for wine production.
The decision to create wines from their own grapes came about because they wanted to share some of the fruits of their labour with friends and family, and thus “Franca’s Vineyard” was born. They employed respected vigneron and winemaker Alex Russell to select the best of their produce a range of wines to achieve optimum grape character, colour and robust flavour.
The range includes the highly popular Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
